Hyundai Ioniq 6 (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Individual looks | Ride is decidedly firm |
| Pleasant to drive | Some disappointing pieces of interior trim |
| Stuffed with equipment and technology | Wing mirror cameras are a bit pointless |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a battery electric vehicle that rivals the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4. Inspired by 1930s aeroplanes, this sleek, bullet-shaped sedan features exceptional aerodynamics of 0.21cD and outstanding efficiency. The rear-wheel drive model delivers 225bhp with an official WLTP range of up to 338 miles, whilst the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant offers 321bhp and 322 miles of range. Built on the same E-GMP platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 combines futuristic design with retro styling details and impressive interior roominess, making it one of the most efficient electric cars available.
The Ioniq 6 excels in technology and equipment, featuring an 800V charging system that enables rapid charging at up to 220kW—achieving a 10-80% charge in around 18 minutes. Vehicle-to-load charging is standard across the range, allowing you to power external devices using the car's battery. A heat pump improves winter range efficiency, whilst the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. Real-world efficiency of 3.8m/kWh translates to approximately 281 miles of range in mild conditions, with electricity costs as low as 4p per mile on off-peak tariffs. However, the firm ride can intrude on comfort, and some interior plastics feel cheap, particularly in Premium trim.
Best for: Buyers seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, excellent range, and strong value for money.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising ride comfort above all else, or buyers wanting premium interior materials throughout all trim levels.

The Verdict
You should buy the Ioniq 6 if: You're seeking a technologically advanced, efficient electric executive with distinctive styling, excellent range, and strong value for money.
Consider alternatives if: Ride comfort is your priority, or you require premium interior materials throughout all trim levels.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a compelling choice in the electric executive segment, offering outstanding efficiency, impressive technology, and distinctive design at competitive pricing. Whilst the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3 score higher with experts, the Ioniq 6 matches or exceeds them in user satisfaction and value for money. It delivers a more individual aesthetic than the Tesla, superior equipment to the entry-level Model 3, and better value than the premium-priced BMW i4. The firm ride and some interior trim choices prevent it from being class-leading, but its combination of efficiency, technology, range, and affordability makes it an exceptionally desirable electric executive for discerning buyers.

5 Overall rating
(1 reviews)Best electric car, with great features and good value for money (if bought used). Smooth ride, amazing drive experience and there is nothing that I felt or experienced that is not up to the mark. Compare to similar other brands and models - Ioniq 6 is by far the most feature-rich and superb electric car. The quality of materials used both inside-out are just top-notch and can easily compare/even beat to some of the German rivals of similar price range.
